Because the Night
Patti Smith
This I am very proud to say, was the first record I ever bought with my own money. Bought from the record shop in Staple Tye shopping centre that sold greeting cards, stationary and all manner of cake decorations by way of a side line. Don’t think it needs any more explanation.
I Feel Love
Donna Summer
My utmost favourite disco track. Makes me want to dig out my retro disco skates that are boxed up under the spare bed and tear off along the promenade. I can skate like the wind; however for the life of me I just can’t STOP. I have learned the hard way that by simply using your stoppers on the front you literally come to an emergency stop halt. Not good. I bought them as a prop for a Studio 54 inspired life class.... just posing static was hard enough on four wheels!
Blackbird - Remastered 2009
The Beatles
I adore The Beatles. This song never fails to lift me and make me happy. I think the Blackbird has the most purest voice.
Them Heavy People
Kate Bush
I have loved this incredible woman all my life. If they ever bring Stars in their Eyes back then I would so love to go on there and come through those doors dressed as Kate in THAT split to the thigh purple skirt! She always makes me lose all inhibitions and sing and dance like there’s no one else in the World. If I had not long left on this Earth, I’ve always said I will get Edwin, the chief choreographer from Matthew Bourne’s Ballet to direct me in my very own swan song; the final scene from Swan Lake AND the choreography from this video! I’m always on the look out for a purple pencil skirt!
Living In The Real World - Remastered
Blondie
This is another Woman I have held dear to my heart since being a little ugly duckling. Would constantly listen to Blondie and day dream that I might be as cool as her one day!
Uncertain Smile
The The
My last family holiday was to Greece where I met a group of Greek Boys.... ? hung around with them for most of the two weeks; they would call my hotel room I was sharing with my younger sister and I would either go to the beach and sunbathe or, and this terrifies me now, would go for a drive with them! They hardly spoke any English and I certainly didn’t speak Greek. Came back love sick and would play this. Also have so much love for this song after hearing it for the first time on John Peel’s show. Just a beautiful song.
Orgasm Addict - Live
Buzzcocks
Bloody love The Buzzcocks. Played this super loud in the hope that my parents would hear the lyrics and demand I turn it down. Guess what? They never did.
Tu veux ou tu veux pas?
Brigitte Bardot
My first boyfriend had a friend that lived in Paris. We would go to visit his friend quite often. Remember vividly driving around Paris with the windows down in the car playing a best of cassette. When we were home in London I thought I was it on a crumpet playing this driving around Catford and Lewisham in the late 1980’s!
Kooks - 2015 Remaster
David Bowie
This is my love song to my eldest Son. He will be 27 in a couple of weeks and I just cannot get my head around it. Seeing Lindsay’s Baby Dylan.... it feels like only yesterday I was a first time Mum.... I played this often when George was tiny and it’s just a beautiful song. I close my eyes and am immediately transported back. Not having a clue what I was doing, but knowing I had so much love for this little boy I thought my heart would burst right out of my chest.
